EEG Fundamentals & cEEG in the Critical Care Courses

As the shortage of qualified EEG technologists continues and the need for 24/7 clinical coverage increases staff who are cross trained as EEG technologists can benefit from understanding basic EEG fundamentals as well as the clinical and management aspects of continuous EEG monitoring in the ICU. The course objectives for this 3-day hand on class are designed to enhance skill sets regarding the fundamentals of EEG technology in the clinical and cEEG Critical Care settings. Whether the attendee’s need is to learn the very basics of EEG or to develop a long-term EEG monitoring program, skills developed during this course will enhance the success of either.

This class is offered in Allentown, Orlando or at your facility. Classes offered at your facility are limited to 6 attendees. If you would like this class conducted at your facility with more than 6 attendees, please inquire below.

Course Information

 

Objectives

Training is focused from the beginner to the advanced level technician. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of:

  • Measurement and application of electrodes in accordance with the International 10-20 system of electrode placement
  • EEG technology including A-D conversion, impedance, common mode rejection, filters and sensitivity settings and montages
  • Acquiring technically satisfactory EEG recordings, with hyperventilation and photic stimulation techniques
  • Normal and abnormal EEG patterns, neuroanatomy and physiology associated with EEG will be gained

Course Outline

Day 1:

  • Anatomy and physiology related to the EEG recording
  • Electrode placement
  • Analog to digital conversion
  • Filter and sensitivity settings Montages
  • EEG Recording Guidelines
  • Activation Procedures

Day 2:

  • Practice measurement and application of electrodes
  • Practice EEG recordings including best practices for impedance check, annotations and patient activations
  • Normal and abnormal EEG patterns
  • Artifacts and troubleshooting
Day 3:

  • Understanding seizures
  • Quantitative EEG (qEEG) and trending
  • Clinical applications of cEEG Neuro ICU
  • Clinical applications of the Neonatal and Cardiac ICU
  • Data and workflow analysis
  • Technical aspects of recording in Critical Care areas
  • Management of a cEEG program

Instructor Biography:

Christian Libres, R. EEG T., Neurocritical Care Clinical Specialist

Christian has spent the past 26 years in the field of Neurodiagnostics. He has a wide range of experience in all aspects of the field,including Neurodiagnostics management, Intra-operative monitoring and extensive ICU and EMU continuous care EEG monitoring. Christian assisted in developing national competency standards for the performance of EEG within his past hospital environment. Having trained numerous technologists in hospital based programs, his practical method of teaching basic EEG skills has prepared these students to become qualified Neurodiagnostic technologists. The limited number of students in this course will allow individual training needs to be met. Whether the need is to learn the very basics of EEG, or to develop a long term EEG monitoring program, skills developed during this course will enhance the success of either.

Nihon Kohden America, Inc. limits the number of registered attendees to ensure the best learning environment. Confirmation for each attendee will be sent by email.

Cancellation

Nihon Kohden America, Inc. reserves the right to cancel any seminar/class within 15 days of the registration cut-off date. If cancelled, notification will be provided to registered attendees 45 days prior to the class start date. If Nihon Kohden cancels a seminar/class, any tuition will be refunded or can be applied to a future seminar/class. Any attendee who has received a seminar/class confirmation and does not attend the seminar will forfeit any tuition.
